❦Commissioning a Piece

Thank you for considering commissioning a piece with EMT Engraving. Once you begin the process, we will guide you step by step to create a unique work of art you’ll enjoy wearing for years to come. 

Please read through the following for an understanding of our custom process.

Step 1: Concept and Scope

We discuss the type of piece (ring, pendant, earrings, etc.), whether it’s an old heirloom or a newer piece. Together, we explore the meaning behind it, the occasion it may be for or the intended use. Your engraving requirements will be determined and visualised.

We may also discuss whether your piece requires repair or resizing prior to engraving. 

If it does, we have a master jeweller in our workshop who can consult and provide these services.

Step 2: Design Parameters

We collect detailed information to inform the design process, including metal type, colours, motifs, symbology, and any gemstones or diamonds. 

Any reference images, sketches, or other jewellery you admire will be considered.

We have abundant resources of font styles, monogram styles, heraldic images, celtic patterns and past work images, and years of professional experience to aid and guide you in this part of the process.

 Step 3: Design Deposit
 

Original monograms, symbolic compositions, heraldic artwork, and other bespoke design work are developed as commissioned artwork.
 

Where a project requires original design, a design deposit may be requested prior to commencement. This covers consultation, research, sketch development, and artwork preparation.
 

Design deposits are non-refundable once work has begun and will be credited toward the final commission where applicable.

Step 4: Initial Sketches
 

We will provide initial sketches based on our discussions and your inspiration.
 

Reference images, historical sources, existing artwork, and personal symbolism may all contribute to the development of the design.
 

Unless otherwise agreed, one round of minor revisions is included before the design proceeds toward final approval.
 

The purpose of this stage is to establish the overall direction, character, and composition of the piece before it is prepared for engraving and manufacture.

Step 5: Refinement and Final Design

The design is refined toward the final piece after reviewing the initial sketches.

The final piece will be an approximate of the design, meaning that it is created by hand, so will be as close as possible to the final design, but may vary in the way that artistic, handmade creations naturally do. That is the element that gives the piece the beauty only handmade craftsmanship can.

Importantly, the final product may differ slightly from proofs due to material behaviour and hand engraving characteristics. To our best capability we will communicate any significant changes and seek your approval during the making process to ensure a faithful and high-quality result.

Once approved, the design will be prepared for engraving.
